The desulfurization system of the metal smelting plant uses a wet flue gas desulfurization process, with exhaust containing hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), ammonia (NH₃), and organic amines.
Although SO₂ emissions from the tower meet standards, noticeable odors persist at the downwind area, leading to frequent complaints.
Beijing Cleaner engineers conducted on-site inspection, analyzing the exhaust and circulating water. A circulating water dosing scheme with plant-based deodorant was implemented, dosing 80–120 ppm into the 60-ton circulating water tank, evenly sprayed through the circulation pump.
The plant extract neutralizing components combined with oxidation factors rapidly break down odor-causing molecules such as H₂S, ammonia, and organic amines.
Plant-based deodorants capture odor molecules, and their active components react with odorous gases in the environment as follows:

After 48 hours of continuous dosing, odor intensity at the downwind area dropped from level 4 to below level 1, H₂S reduced by over 90%, and ammonia was nearly undetectable.
Circulating water remained stable, with no foam or scaling, and resident complaints significantly decreased. The operation is simple, safe, and environmentally friendly, achieving rapid odor elimination without modifying the tower.
