The Removal Method of the Heavy Metal Nickel
Heavy metal nickel is widely used in industrial production, such as electroplating, battery manufacturing, alloy production and other fields. However, once nickel enters the environment, it brings a lot of hazards. Nickel is toxic. For humans, long-term exposure or intake of nickel-containing substances can cause skin allergies, respiratory diseases, and even increase the risk of cancer. In the natural environment, if the nickel-containing waste water and waste residue are not properly treated, the nickel will accumulate in the soil and water body, destroying the ecological balance and affecting the growth of animals and plants. Therefore, the effective removal of the heavy metal nickel is crucial.
Currently, there are various methods to remove the heavy metal nickel. Chemical precipitation method is commonly used. By adding sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfide and other precipitates to the nickel-containing wastewater, nickel ions react with the anions in the precipitant to form nickel hydroxide, nickel sulfide and other insoluble precipitation, and then remove nickel from the wastewater through precipitation, filtration and other operations. This method is easy to operate and low cost, but may produce a lot of chemical sludge, which needs to be properly treated later.
Ion exchange method Using ion exchange resin, the exchangeable ions on the resin are exchanged with nickel ions to achieve the removal of nickel. This method has high removal efficiency and good effluent water quality, but the resin needs to be regenerated regularly, and the regeneration process is more complex, and the cost is relatively high.
Adsorption method uses activated carbon, zeolite and other adsorbent with a large specific surface area, through physical adsorption or chemical adsorption, nickel ions are adsorbed on the surface of the adsorbent. The adsorption method has a good effect on treating low-concentration nickel-containing wastewater, and the adsorbent can be reused, but the adsorption capacity is limited, which may need to replace the adsorbent frequently.
