Fluorine is an element widely found in nature, and many industrial production processes, such as electronics, chemicals, metallurgy, and electroplating, generate large amounts of fluoride-containing wastewater. The fluoride concentration in this wastewater is relatively high, and if discharged directly without treatment, it can cause serious harm to the environment and human health. Therefore, an efficient and economical high-fluoride wastewater defluorination agent is of great significance for protecting the environment and human health.
Sources of High-Fluoride Wastewater:
Electronics Industry: In semiconductor manufacturing, printed circuit board production, and other processes, large amounts of fluoride-containing chemicals, such as hydrofluoric acid and ammonium fluoride, are used, which generate fluoride-containing wastewater during production.
Chemical Industry: The production of fluorochemical products, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and other processes also produces fluoride-containing wastewater.
Metallurgical Industry: During aluminum smelting, steel smelting, and other processes, fluoride salts are used as fluxing agents, and these fluoride salts enter the wastewater during production, leading to increased fluoride content.
Electroplating Industry: In the electroplating process, fluoride-containing electroplating solutions are used to improve the quality and corrosion resistance of coatings, and these solutions generate fluoride-containing wastewater after use.
Hazards of High-Fluoride Wastewater to the Environment and Human Health:
Environmental Hazards: Fluorides are harmful to plant growth. When high-fluoride wastewater is discharged into water bodies, it inhibits the growth of aquatic plants, affecting the ecological balance of the water. Additionally, fluorides can pollute soil, affecting soil fertility and crop growth.
Human Health Hazards: Fluorine is an essential trace element for the human body, but excessive fluoride intake can harm health. Long-term consumption of high-fluoride water can lead to dental fluorosis, skeletal fluorosis, and other diseases, seriously impacting health and quality of life.
High-fluoride wastewater defluorination agents are polymer compounds that can adsorb and coagulate fluoride ions in water, leading to precipitation and separation, thus achieving defluorination. For optimal defluorination, the wastewater's pH needs to be adjusted to around 7-8, and flocculants must be added to assist with precipitation. In addition to using defluorination agents, defluorination processes are required to improve the defluorination effect and reduce treatment costs.
Treating high-fluoride wastewater is an urgent environmental issue, and suitable defluorination agents are key to achieving compliant discharge of high-fluoride wastewater. In practical applications, it is necessary to choose according to the characteristics of the wastewater and the treatment requirements, and to combine defluorination processes to provide technical support for efficient and economical treatment of high-fluoride wastewater.
